Government data revealed 8.6 percent of Americans are uninsured, a record low dipping under last year's 9.1 percent, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.
NCHS' 2016 report provides health insurance estimates for the first quarter of the year using data from January to March from 24,317 Americans.
Here are seven statistics from the report.
1. The number of uninsured Americans fell 1.3 million in the first quarter of this year, from 28.6 million in 2015 to 27.3 million in 2016.
2. Among adults ages 18 to 64, 11.9 percent were uninsured. Of insured adults, 19.5 percent had public coverage and 70.2 percent had private coverage.
3. Five percent of children ages 0 to 17 were uninsured. Of insured children, 42.1 percent had public coverage and 54.9 percent had private coverage.
4. The number of Americans gaining private coverage through health insurance marketplaces remained stagnant. In the first quarter of 2015, there was a 4.4 percent increase in the number adults ages 18 to 64 purchasing private plans through the marketplace. In the same period a year later, there was a 4.7 percent increase.
5. The number of privately insured individuals under the age of 65 with high-deductible health plans continues to increase. In 2010, 25.3 percent of individuals under age 65 had HDHPs compared to 36.7 percent in 2015 and 40 percent in the first quarter of 2016.
6. Adults ages 25 to 34 were nearly twice as likely as adults ages 45 to 64 to be uninsured (15.9 percent versus 8.1 percent, respectively).
7. In the first quarter of 2016, 24.5 percent of Hispanic, 13 percent of non-Hispanic black, 8.4 percent of non-Hispanic white and 6.7 percent of non-Hispanic Asian adults ages 18 to 64 were uninsured.
