While BCBSI policyholders with employer-based insurance already had in-network coverage for emergency and referred services at EIRMC beginning in January, the new contract extends this provision to policyholders with private coverage or health plans purchased through the Idaho healthcare exchange, Your Health Idaho.
Prior to the change, policyholders with private or individually purchased coverage were required to pay for emergency and referral-based services on an out-of-network basis, according to the report.
