Three things to know:
1. Under the ACA, Section 1332 waivers allow states to opt out of specific requirements of the law to implement different health coverage models, as long the models have similarly comprehensive benefits and are as affordable, comparable in terms of number of state residents covered and do not increase the federal deficit.
2. CMS posted a number of concept papers and application templates July 15 to assist states in receiving 1332 waivers. The resources include help with state-specific premium projects, adjusted plan options, account-based subsidies and risk stabilization.
3. To date, CMS has approved 1332 waivers in seven states and partially approved another in one other state, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
