Under the partnership, Cigna will provide two years of medical claims data to ASAM and BrandeisUniversity researchers, who will analyze which treatment methodologies were the most effective.
Cigna expects researchers to complete the claims analysis this fall. The study will be funded in part by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
“We can drill down in the data and develop some predictive models,” William Lopez, MD, Cigna’s senior medical director, told Forbes. “This is a chronic disease and they may struggle with this for years. We can use this data to better manage [their care].”
