Uninsured New Yorkers who are eligible for the cards can use them to access physicians, undergo preventive screenings and tests, and schedule appointments, the mayor’s office said May 7. Each cardholder will be responsible for copays.
The city’s NYC Care program will be activated Aug. 1 in the Bronx borough and expand to all of the city’s five boroughs by 2020. The $100 million project aims to cover New York City’s 300,000 residents who are ineligible for or unable to afford insurance, including undocumented immigrants.
New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals has hired physicians to serve the roughly 10,000 Bronx-area patients who are expected to enroll in NYC Care during the program’s first six months, the mayor’s office said.
