Sens. Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) and Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) penned the proposal for universal healthcare. Supporters of the proposed legislation argue the single-payer system would decrease California’s healthcare costs and inefficiencies, while opponents said it would increase taxpayers’ spending and give too much power to the government, according to the report.
Specifics of the bill, also known as SB 562, will be outlined in coming weeks, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reports.
