Anthem inks OTC agreement with CVS

Anthem Medicare Advantage members in California and New York can purchase over-the-counter medications and health supplies at CVS Pharmacy stores using their health plan allowance beginning in January, the companies said Jan. 14.

The agreements add more than 1,390 CVS Pharmacy stores to the networks of Anthem Blue Cross in California and Empire BlueCross and Empire BlueCross BlueShield in New York.

Medicare Advantage members in each of Anthem’s health plans have different allowances for OTC drugs. For Empire, the 2019 allowance is as much as $960 each year, while for Anthem Medicare Advantage members in California, the OTC allowance is up to $300 per quarter.
