Aetna, WMC Health Network agree to maintain contract

Valhalla, N.Y.-based Westchester Medical Center Health Network and Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna agreed to continue covering patients through their health network, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.

Aetna said in June it would no longer cover patients in its Piedmont network after its contract with the health system expired Aug. 31. However, in July the insurer said it would likely reach an agreement with WMC prior to the expiration date. In doing so, the insurer upturned its June decision and notified patients of the sustained agreement by letter Sept. 1.

"We told you before that this facility was leaving your plan's network," Aetna said in the letter, according to the report. "However, we're glad to tell you that your facility will stay in your plan's network."

Poughkeepsie-based MidHudson Regional Hospital and Kingston, N.Y.-based HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley are part of the network.
