7-Eleven: The one-stop shop for Slurpees and health insurance?

L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly run health plan in the nation, has partnered with PayNearMe to allow its L.A. Care Covered members to pay their monthly health insurance premiums with cash at 683 locations throughout Los Angeles County, including 7-Eleven.

 

Most insurers require members to pay their premiums using credit cards, check or an Automated Clearing House transfer. L.A. Care decided to partner with PayNearMe to make it easier for those who don't have credit cards or bank accounts to pay for their health insurance.

 

"L.A. Care exists to provide access to quality healthcare for Los Angeles County's vulnerable residents, and this partnership with PayNearMe enables us to do exactly that, in a way that is convenient and easy for our members," said John Baackes, CEO of L.A. Care.

 

To use the free service, L.A. Care Covered plan members print or send a unique PayNearMe code to their smartphone and then give the code and their cash payment to a worker at a 7-Eleven or other participating store. Members who are traveling outside of L.A. County can pay their premiums at any of PayNearMe's 17,000 retail payment locations nationwide.

 

"Maintaining health coverage is now a federal requirement, and we are working to ensure that consumers are not penalized for their preference of payment methods," said Danny Shader, founder and CEO of PayNearMe.
