Hospital staff discovered moisture in some areas of the building earlier in the week. Those areas have been closed out of an abundance of caution, the hospital said. The closure affected patient rooms, which prompted the transfer of patients.
The hospital is still accepting emergency patients and has no plans to divert or transfer pregnant patients or newborns.
“Patient safety is the top priority in handling this situation,” said Pat O’Donnell, Chambersburg Hospital’s president and CEO. “We have multiple crews, working around the clock, to make the necessary repairs and remediation. However, the weather could cause delays in those repairs. If more moisture is discovered, we didn’t want to be out of options. At the end of the day, the safety of our patients and staff is just too important to not make this decision.”
