North Shore Medical Center issues armed intruder alert after patient tries to grab officer’s gun

A patient attempted to grab an officer’s gun at Lynn, Mass.-based North Shore Medical Center Union Hospital April 28, prompting the hospital to issue an armed intruder alert, reports CBS Boston.

Two police officers were guarding a 27-year-old patient as he was being treated for an undisclosed illness at the hospital. The patient was being held on home invasion charges following a April 27 arrest. As he was sitting in the hospital, the patient broke off the bed railing he was handcuffed to and attempted to flee. When he began running, he attempted to grab the officer’s gun. A struggle between the two occurred, prompting the armed intruder alert.

The two officers were able to subdue the suspect within seconds. At no time was the man loose in the hospital with a gun. No one was injured during the incident.
