Mayo to shutter nursing home operations in Fairmont

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic plans to close Lutz Wing, its 40-bed skilled nursing home in Fairmont, Minn., according to a Sentinel report.

Hospital officials expect to close the facility by Dec. 1.

Marie Morris, MD, medical director at Mayo in Fairmont, told the Sentinel the decision followed "a thorough evaluation of long-term skilled nursing care options in the Fairmont region and how Mayo Clinic can best serve our patients."

She added, "We're fortunate to have a wonderful skilled nursing facility in Fairmont, Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, and six additional facilities within 30 miles."

The current 23 Lutz Wing residents have the option of relocating to Lakeview. Mayo said it is also working with various entities, such as county social services, the state and area nursing home facilities, "to ensure a smooth transition for residents."
