Scottsburg, Ind.-based Scott Memorial Hospital will stop delivering babies May 31, because the program is not financially sustainable, according to a WDRB report.

Hospital officials cited limited demand for the service, lower reimbursement rates and increased operating expenses as the main reasons to close the obstetrics unit.

The hospital plans to transfer expectant mothers to its sister facility, Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind., to deliver babies. Scott Memorial still will offer prenatal care and conduct emergency deliveries.
