Two paramedics pushed a patient in a stretcher across a mile of ice to reach SSM Health DePaul Hospital-St. Louis on Feb. 11, CNN reports.
The two individuals, who work as paramedics and firefighters, hit the road after receiving a call about a traffic accident. They arrived to find a metro bus with just its driver facing the opposite direction on the road.
While the driver did not have any life-threatening injuries, the paramedics agreed she should be taken to the hospital for evaluation.
However, about a mile away from the hospital, their vehicle slid on ice into a small ravine by the side of the road. The paramedics said they noticed the patient becoming distressed by the situation and agreed to "huff it" to the hospital and push the patient in stretcher for the remaining distance and across two large hills.
"Our equipment is top notch. We would never have been able to do that without the support of our community. We are never afraid to do anything extra for them," one of the paramedics told CNN.
