Columbia St. Mary's Hospital loses trauma designation at 2 campuses

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services stripped Columbia St. Mary's Hospital campuses in Mequon and Milwaukee — both part of St. Louis-based Ascension — of their trauma center designation, according to Greater Milwaukee Today.

Both hospitals lost designation for providing the state trauma registry with incomplete information and not documenting performance improvement processes. The loss of trauma designation for Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon leaves Aurora Medical Center in Grafton as the lone certified trauma center in Ozaukee County.

"Columbia St. Mary's Hospital is a licensed hospital with an active emergency department that provides high-quality care to acutely ill or injured patients and will continue to provide emergency care to all patients arriving by ambulance," said a spokeswoman for Ascension Wisconsin, according to Greater Milwaukee Today. "As we work with the state to resolve the classification status, we will continue to provide all our patients with personalized, compassionate care, with special attention to those who are most vulnerable."
