Chicago area hospital reopens after flooding forced nearly 6-day closure

Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital, part of Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine, reopened at 5 a.m. Tuesday after closing on the evening of July 12 due flooding and loss of power.

The hospital was cleared to reopen after passing a life safety inspection and a health inspection, Melaney Arnold, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Public Health, told the Chicago Tribune.

On July 12, after losing power due to flooding caused by storms, the hospital transferred 93 patients to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and other local facilities. Patients who were evacuated from the facility will not be transferred back, Megan McCann, a spokeswoman for Northwestern Medicine, told the Chicago Tribune.
