After taking several months to repair damage from a fire, Hackensack Meridian Health Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, N.J., reopened its intensive care unit May 28.

At the end of February a small fire erupted in a break room at the medical center, activating the sprinkler system. While no patients or staff members were harmed, the water from the sprinklers damaged the ICU and other areas of the hospital.

“Since the incident occurred, we’ve been working around the clock to renovate the impacted floors in order to reopen them for our community,” said Bayshore Medical Center COO Frank Citara. “During the renovations, we selected the best materials and designs for the patients, who will heal in the space, and for our physicians and team members who will work there.”

During ICU repairs, Bayshore Medical Center continued care for patients in its emergency department.
