In an attempt to beat its one-day flu-shot record from 2017, MIT Medical had all staff, besides urgent care and emergency services employees, vaccinating the MIT community, David Tytell, medical marketing and communications director at MIT, told MIT News.

In total, MIT vaccinated 9,378 people, which average out to one shot every 3.8 seconds, and kept wait times under 10 minutes.

“I was in and out in <120 seconds,” Ellen Lalk, a graduate student at MIT, tweeted.

Clinic attendees posted social media updates, and the hashtag #MITvsFLU was trending on Twitter in Massachusetts by midday. After receiving a flu shot, students received a sticker that detailed what number flu shot they received.

“Those stickers really work,” one staff member said, according to MIT News. “A number of my colleagues went at different times, and we got so excited to see the number grow throughout the day. Who knew an immunization could get so many people so happy and excited?”

The campus will host another flu clinic Oct. 21 for members of the MIT community ages 10 and up.
