Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth’s approach to patient experience is rooted in a belief that goes beyond clinical outcomes, according to Tim Cook, the system’s senior vice president and chief mission integration officer.
The belief is that every patient “is a child of God with infinite value,” Mr. Cook said in a May 21 Q&A from AdventHealth, which operates 51 hospitals across nine states.
Mr. Cook said that conviction drives intentional efforts to address the full scope of patient needs, including social factors that shape health. AdventHealth screens for food insecurity and partners with local governments and nonprofits on community infrastructure, including a $50,000 donation from AdventHealth Manchester to fund a water quality study in Clay County, Ky.
On patient experience specifically, Mr. Cook said faith-based care creates a distinct culture around clinical excellence rather than replacing it. Compassion is “intentional,” he said, with care teams encouraged to communicate clearly and approach each interaction “with meaning and respect.”
“Every person who walks through our doors matters,” Mr. Cook said. “Our hope is that patients leave with strong clinical outcomes and greater confidence, clarity and peace — feeling seen, supported and more whole.”
