UI Hospitals & Clinics to offer free parking for patients

Patients can park at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for free starting Dec. 3, reports the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

At present, patients must pay $10 a day to park in one of four garages surrounding the Iowa City-based health system. In December, patients will be able to download a free parking pass from their MyChart account.

Hospital visitors will still have to pay for parking, although they can purchase a $30 parking pass booklet for discounted rates.

The health system is implementing the change to improve patient satisfaction, according to Suresh Gunasekaran, CEO of UIHC.

"We want our patients' and visitors' time here to be as positive as possible," he said in a statement cited by the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
