Wake Forest Baptist Health opens surgery center — 5 insights

Wake Forest Baptist Health opened its surgery center at Lexington (N.C.) Medical Center Aug. 16, The-Dispatch.com reports.

What you should know:

1. The surgery center cost the hospital $31.5 million.

2. The 26,500-square-foot surgery center is the largest development project in the hospital's 40-year history.

3. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based health system built the center to modernize its surgical capabilities, said system president Kevin High, MD.

4. Center clinicians will perform ENT, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, urology and general surgical procedures in the center.

5. The center has a 10-bay post anesthesia care unit, a urology procedure room and a waiting area for families.
