Nearly 50 scooter-related issues, including orthopedic and head injuries, have been treated at the hospital since late May. One death was reported after a man on a scooter rode in front of a truck, authorities said.
It’s doubtful that most people wear helmets when riding the scooters, according to TGH’s emergency medicine chief, David Wein, MD — even though it’s a requirement.
Other hospitals could see an uptick in scooter-related injuries, as the use of electric scooters has exploded in recent years. A map created by NBC News shows the rapid expansion.
