Steele Memorial Medical Center (Salmon, Idaho). Founded in 1950, Steele Memorial Medical Center is a nonprofit 18-bed hospital with an associated rural health clinic. The hospital opened in its current building in October 2004. SMMC is the second-largest employer in Salmon, with more than 150 employees. SMMC has earned several recognitions of excellence in recent years, including being named an iVantage Health Analytics Top 100 Critical Access Hospital as well as the National Rural Health Association naming it as a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital this year. Studer Group also gave SMMC its Excellence in Patient Care Award in 2015.
