Five details:
1. The specialty facility for bone, joint and spine care occupies 135,000 square feet in Newburgh, Ind. The fourth floor is reserved for future expansion.
2. With 24 inpatient rooms, 10 operating rooms and two procedure rooms, Ascension St. Vincent Orthopedic Hospital will employ about 200 people. It’s not equipped with an emergency room or intensive care units.
3. St. Vincent and Tri-State Orthopaedic Surgeons broke ground on the project two years ago. They planned the hospital to meet local demand for orthopedic care, which is expected to rise 24 percent in the next few years.
4. The new hospital was developed after a team from Tri-State Orthopaedics and St. Vincent visited a similar one in Springfield, Mo., in 2015.
5. Ascension St. Vincent Orthopedic Hospital will begin seeing patients July 8. Services will include surgical and nonsurgical care, physical therapy and preoperative education.
