Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedics has added four new leaders to its sports medicine program.
Michael Banffy, MD, has been named chief of sports medicine at Cedars-Sinai, according to an April 23 news release.
Dr. Banffy specializes in joint preservation, complex cartilage restoration and advanced hip, shoulder and knee arthroscopy. He is also team physician for the Los Angeles Rams and an orthopedic consultant to MLB players and Loyola Marymount University Athletics.
He will be joined by Casey Batten, MD, and Joshua Scott, MD, who have been named co-directors of nonoperative orthopedics and sports medicine.
Dr. Batten serves as the lead primary care sports medicine physician for the Los Angeles Rams and is a primary care sports medicine specialist in the nonsurgical treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses. Dr. Scott is a primary care sports medicine physician and the chief medical officer for the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team.
Clarence Shields, MD, has been tapped as medical director of Team HEAL at Cedars-Sinai, a program that aims to enrich the lives of athletes. He is past president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and specializes in sports medicine. He has also served as an NFL physician and an orthopedic specialist for the Los Angeles Rams.
