For their study, researchers implemented preoperative safety briefings in a hospital OR, which was comprised of a 5-10 minute meeting with anesthesia staff, surgeons and nursing staff to discuss the operating list before the start of surgery. Researchers analyzed the impact of the briefings on OR start time and staff tolerance of the briefings.

Their analysis showed no statistical difference on OR start time when using the preoperative safety briefing. In addition, OR staff members expressed positive feedback on the briefings, including 97 percent who reported that the briefing helped determine potential patient safety problems.
