Texas AG Greg Abbott Sues Feds for Ending Funds for Women's Health Program

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is filing a lawsuit against the federal government over CMS' plans to stop funding the state's Women's Health Program, according to a Texas Tribune report.

CMS said it would cut funds to Texas' program due to its exclusion of Planned Parenthood, which CMS says violates federal Medicaid law by depriving beneficiaries from their right to choose their healthcare provider.

Mr. Abbott requested that CMS resume funding, claiming the decision to end payments is unconstitutional because it interferes unduly with the state's legislature by forcing taxpayers to fund elective abortion providers, according to the report.
