Tenet had originally intended to allow its lease at the facility to expire in Feb. 2009.

The building is owned by real estate investment trust HCP, which informed Tenet that the new lessee does not want an operating hospital on the property. HCP requested Tenet return the property as a closed hospital, facilitating the Jan. 15 closure to meet this obligation.
