Poll: Most Americans Want PPACA Scaled Back or Repealed

A majority of Americans favor scaling back or repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a recent Gallup poll.

Of those surveyed from Dec.3 to Dec. 4, 20 percent said they would like to see Congress scale the law back, and 32 percent said they want it repealed entirely. Twenty percent responded they would favor expanding the law, while 17 percent would prefer keeping it as-is, according to the poll.

These percentages haven't shifted significantly since January 2011, when a previous poll found 32 percent wanted the law repealed, and 25 percent wanted it scaled back, according to Gallup. In 2011, 24 percent wanted the PPACA expanded, and 13 percent favored keeping it as-is.

Gallup also found Republicans and Democrats remain deeply divided in their view of the healthcare reform law. According to the poll, 68 percent of Republicans want the law repealed, and 22 percent want it scaled back, compared with 6 percent and 17 percent of Democrats, respectively.
