The end of the 2014 open enrollment period for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act exchanges is March 31. Rep. Schrader said extending enrollment through April would help his home state’s exchange, Cover Oregon, which has experienced severe technical problems, according to the report.
Earlier this month, in response to requests from Republican members of Congress, the Government Accountability Office announced it will launch an investigation into the use of $304 million in federal grants that funded Cover Oregon. In response to similar requests from several members of Congress and congressional committees, the GAO has said it will broaden its investigation beyond Oregon, although the other states have not yet been determined. Other states whose exchanges have floundered include Maryland, Hawaii and Massachusetts.
