The state hasn’t indicated how many of the 48,162 enrollees have signed up for Medicaid and how many have enrolled in private health insurance plans, according to the report. Almost 200,000 people have completed the full application process for coverage through the exchange, according to the state’s health department.
The state’s announcement comes on the heels of a report from healthcare business advisory company Avalere Health, which stated only 13,300 people had enrolled in health plans through the New York exchange as of Nov. 10. Overall, the report said 12 state-run exchanges had enrolled about 3 percent of their expected 2014 participants.
Avalere based its analysis on publicly available enrollment data for state-based exchanges and the May 2013 Congressional Budget Office estimate of 7 million total exchange enrollees for 2014. Avalere also removed Medicaid beneficiaries from the exchange data when possible.
