Community Health Systems, based in Franklin, Tenn., and owner of Vista Health System, wanted to build a 132-bed hospital in Lindenhurst, where Vista currently has an ambulatory care center.
The Illinois board denied the bid, which it previously had done in March, because it said a new hospital would create duplicative and unnecessary services in the area. Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care was the biggest opponent of the measure. One of its hospitals, Advocate Condell Medical Center, is in Libertyville, Ill., roughly 45 minutes away from Lindenhurst.
