AHA Priorities for 2012: Transform Care, Maintain Resources, Reduce Regulations

The American Hospital Association released its advocacy priorities for 2012, including a message card urging legislative action on drug shortage legislation and key extensions, according to an AHA News Now report.

AHA's 2012 list of advocacy goals includes three general areas with more specific concerns falling underneath. Here are issues AHA will push for in 2012:

1. Transforming the health care delivery system
  • Improving hospital performance
  • Delivery system reform programs
  • Coverage
  • Physician issues
  • Health information technology

2. Maintaining essential resources
  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • Small or rural hospitals
  • Outpatient evaluation and management services
  • Annual appropriations
  • Workforce
  • Hospital capital financing
  • Pension funding


3. Reducing regulatory burden

  • Program integrity and contractor overlap
  • Clinical integration
  • Administrative simplification and ICD-10 implementation
  • Medical liability reform
