The lawsuit claimed that a pharmacist improperly accessed the prescription records of her husband’s former girlfriend and then disclosed the information to outside parties, according to the report.
The suit also claimed Walgreens was negligent in training the pharmacist and shares the blame for the compromised patient information, according to the report.
Walgreens intends to appeal the ruling: “We believe it is a misapplication of the law to hold an employer liable for the actions of one employee who knowingly violates company policy,” according to a company statement cited in the report.
