The conflict originated when a local reporter, Brenna Angel, filed an open records request for information on the program, including mortality rates. UK sued Ms. Angel to keep the information private, but was compelled to make the mortality rates public following a CNN report, according to the news outlet.
Both Ms. Angel and UK have now agreed to a dismissal of the case. “UK’s release of its mortality rates in the pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program has achieved in large part my purpose for filing the open records request,” wrote Ms. Angel, according to the report. “Families who are entrusting their children to UK Healthcare now have access to this type of information.”
UK has plans to reopen the embattled program following the completion of an internal safety review, according to the report.
