As a federal employee, the justices can opt to enroll in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, which offers a fair amount of perks, including:
- A national network of physicians
- No waiting period
- Guarantee of coverage and no higher premiums based on pre-existing conditions
- The option to keep coverage after retiring
This is the same coverage the 8 million other federal employees can choose to buy into. The rates are competitive with large company health insurance packages, according to a labor economist at the Brookings Institution. ?.
Whether or not the Supreme Court justices buy into the plan or go with another one is unclear. But polling shows that 50 percent of Americans believe the justices will veer from the strict code of law and channel partisan political beliefs when deciding on the constitutionality of the PPACA.
