U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks stated that the hospital’s former president may have paid a physician group for interpretation of arterial blood gas tests, even though such tests no longer require interpretation.

In a statement, Arlington Memorial Hospital said it discovered the problem during contract renewal negotiations in Aug. 2007 and immediately reported the situation to the HHS Office of the Inspector General.
