While critical access hospitals currently receive cost-based reimbursement from Medicare, they do not receive the same benefit for Medicaid beneficiaries. Gov. Cuomo said the legislation would have cost the state government $3.5 million, though he also said critical access hospitals can take up the issue with the state’s Medicaid Redesign Team during future budget talks, according to the report.
