CMS Acting Administrator Marilyn Tavenner announced Mr. Larsen’s resignation in an email to employees on Friday.

The director of HHS’ Office of Health Reform Mike Hash will serve as CCIIO’s interim director until the department finds a permanent replacement for Mr. Larsen.

CCIIO is responsible for implementing much of the new rules written in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which is subject to a Supreme Court ruling on its constitutionality in the coming days.
