The specific proposal comes from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who, in a statement, did not rule out the possibility of requiring a minimum percentage for charity care and community benefit in the future, saying it needs “more study.”
Sen. Grassley also stated that congressional review of federal tax-exemption laws for non-profit hospitals was four decades overdue.
