Authorities say Shelly Robinson drove away in an Austin-Travis County EMS ambulance after she was discharged from South Austin Medical Center. She abandoned the ambulance a few blocks away from the hospital.
A few hours after police found the ambulance they arrested Ms. Robinson for being drunk in public and then realized she was the person who had taken the ambulance earlier that day, according to the report.
Because three Austin-Travis County EMS ambulances have been stolen in the past few months, the agency is now installing anti-theft devices on its vehicles, according to the report.
