Tameka Evans told WSB-TV News she went to the facility to visit her uncle, who had unknowingly been moved to a different hospital.
Ms. Evans said before leaving, she asked an employee at the check-in desk if she could use the restroom. The attendant reportedly gave her permission to do so. Upon leaving the restroom, Ms. Evans, who is six-months pregnant, said there was a security guard waiting outside to speak with her.
The security guard reportedly told her it was “criminal trespassing” to use the restroom. Ms. Evans said she was issued a trespassing warning and was instructed “to leave the property of the hospital immediately for violating regulations,” according to the report.
She also claims the security guard told her that if she was found on hospital property again, she would “get locked up” unless she was seeking medical attention, according to the report.
“Emory Healthcare is continuing to review this situation. The document issued [was] not a ticket — it [was] a notice stating that the hospital is private property, and is available for our patients and their visitors,” a spokesperson for Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare said in a statement Tuesday. “During the course of this investigation, however, the Emory Healthcare Public Safety Team has [been] asked to look further at situations like this and will work to refine and improve our policies and practices regarding visitors to our facilities.”
