A federal jury has convicted a 63-year-old Pennsylvania man in connection with threats made against the CEO of Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital.
Lawrence Brunn of Oakmont, Pa., was found guilty of cyber harassment and faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison, according to a June 5 news release from the Justice Department.
The release refers to the CEO as “J.C.” The case involves John Couris, president and CEO of the Florida Health Sciences Center, which includes Tampa General Hospital.
According to the Justice Department, Mr. Brunn began harassing Mr. Couris as early as 2022, with the conduct increasing in frequency and intensity over the following two years. Authorities said the harassment included online posts and mailings sent to Mr. Couris’ residence, neighboring homes and members of Tampa General’s board.
The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Candace Garcia Rich.
“We are grateful to the Department of Justice and the FBI for their exemplary work in pursuing and investigating this case,” Amanda Bevis, a spokesperson for Tampa General Hospital, said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
