OSHA issued a citation and a roughly $100,000 fine after a nurse hired by Epic alleged she was sexually assaulted by a client while providing home health services in the client’s home.
Officials investigated the incident and determined that the company failed to act on numerous reports of verbal, physical and sexual violence against employees, according to the report. Officials also found that the healthcare company had no system of reporting threats or violence in the workplace.
The agency cited Epic with one willful violation for failing to maintain a safe workplace. Officials allege that the employer “either knowingly failed to comply with the legal requirement, purposefully disregarded the requirement or acted with indifference to employee safety,” according to the report.
