Mr. Sheehan, who is the first to serve in this position, has been criticized for his “heavy-handed” tactics for bringing down healthcare fraudsters. According to a Crain’s News York Business news report, many critics, including those in the medical community, say he automatically treated billing errors as fraud or abuse.
So far, Mr. Sheehan has helped recovery approximately $1 billion from Medicaid fraud, according to the WAMC news report.
