The contract addendum was sent to physicians in September, and the medical society along with the North Carolina Medical Group Managers Assn., the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians and the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists wrote a letter to Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin on Oct. 26, asking him to intervene, according to the report.
Gov. Bev Perdue signed a law on July 17 that requires insurers to notify physicians of changes to their contracts, and physicians are allowed to object to the changes. While BCBSNC has reportedly withdrawn the addendum, no details regarding the new draft have been release.
According to the report, the medical society, BCBSNC and Mr. Goodwin were scheduled to meet at the end of November to discuss the contract, but a date has not yet been set for the meeting.
