Mercy Medical Center in Massachusetts to Pay $2.8 Million in False Claims Settlement

Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., agreed to pay nearly $2.8 million to settle allegations that it violated the federal False Claims Act by failing to provide the minimum amount of rehabilitation therapy required by Medicare, according to a Justice Department press release.

In 2007, Mercy disclosed to the OIG that it could not demonstrate having provided the number of hours of therapy Medicare guidelines required.

The settlement resulted from that disclosure, according to the Justice Department, whose civil division, along with the OIG’s office, handled the case.
