Medicare Whistle-Blower Earns $2.1M in Settlement

The whistle-blower in a False Claims Act suit against Houston-based Dubuis Health System will receive $2.1 million of the $8 million settlement, according to a National Law Review report.

The FCA allows private citizens to bring qui tam suits against potential offenders on behalf of the government, citizens who are then eligible to receive a large portion of any resulting settlement, according to the report.

The suit against Dubuis was filed by Darlene Tucker, RN, who uncovered her employers' scheme, according to the report. For filing the case, Ms. Tucker will take home more than a quarter of the settlement.
