Mass. man gets jail sentence for causing Mercy Medical Center lockdown

In mid-March, Manuel Carrasquillo visited Springfield, Mass.-based Mercy Medical Center due to stomach pain. Eventually he started complaining about the hospital’s emergency room wait time — and the situation only spiraled downward from there, according to MassLive.com.

Mr. Carrasquillo soon started yelling at Mercy’s physicians and nurses, prompting the hospital to issue a lockdown.

Shortly thereafter, he was arrested, and he has now been sentenced to 18 months in jail and three years of probation.

“In this case, people and their families who were seeking medical treatment and care, some in mental and physical pain already, were caused greater discomfort because of Mr. Carrasquillo’s inexplicable outburst,” said Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, according to the report. “I am pleased the judge accepted our recommendation and issued a firm sentence.”
