The billing company, medical groups and physician were investigated over nuclear stress tests conducted between July 2007 and March 2011. Prosecutors claim the physicians and practices hired Engage to help process billings, and the company routinely billed Medicare twice for the same tests, according to the report.
Rockville-based Advanced Cardiology Center and its owners agreed to pay $1.9 million, Riverdale-based Kenilworth Internists PA agreed to pay $242,204 and Sureshkumar Muttath, MD, agreed to pay $659,726. Reston, Va.-based Engage Medical, a billing company, and its owner agreed to pay $544,500.
